According to FCI standard coat of Thai Ridgeback Dog must be short and smoothy. In reality we have 4 types of coat. Super-short is the shortes one. The size is aproximatelly 2mm. The ridge on such coat is not is so vivid and sometimes even hard to find it. This type of coat do not protect skin very well.
The second type of coat is velour coat. The size is longer than 2 mm but no longer than 1 cm. It is the most popular type of coat among buyers. This is smooth, shine and gentle coat. No other breed has such type of coat.
The third type of coat is short coat. The size must be no longer than 2 cm. This coat is the most spread coat among TRD. it is also shine, bright, gentle and better protect skin that 2 previous types. Its better suits to european climate.
And the last one is standard coat. It is the longest coat. The size is no longer than 2,5 cm. This type of coat must be smooth. It can’t be fluffy, fuzzy or looks like long coat.
FCI recognized only 4 colours: blue (silver), red (with or without mask), black, fawn (with or without mask). But in reality tere are more colours in Thailand: brindle, white, choko, brown, green (dirty grey). The most spread color all over the world is red. It is because the red colour is very popular in Thailand. Black color of coat rarely spread. It is also because it is not poplural color in Thailand. But in Europe it is popular and the population of black TRD increase every year. The most popular color is blue one.
